Fistula-Ambassador

Lashon Cade

Lashon Cade’s journey with obstetric fistula began on February 1, 1993, during the birth of her first child. Because of the loss of amniotic fluid, her labor was induced.  As her labor pains increased, she was unable to push the baby out of her womb. Her obstetrician insisted she push while he used the forceps to pull the baby out. This process was unsuccessful. The baby turned and caused a 4-degree tear from her vagina to her rectum. This process caused her to develop a fistula where feces and urine passed through her vagina uncontrollably. She has had two surgical repairs that improved the quality of her life. Lashon is committed to being an advocate for helping women heal from obstetric fistula.
