Lashon Cade’s journey with vaginal fistula began on February 1, 1993 during the birth of her first child. Her labor was induced because she was losing amniotic fluid. As her labor pains increased, she was unable to push the baby out of my womb. Her Obstetrician insisted she push while he used the forceps to pull the baby out. This process was unsuccessful. He used suction on the baby’s head which popped off and caused him to fall on the floor. At that time, the baby’s shoulder and head became stuck in her vagina. The baby turned and caused a 4-degree tear from her vagina to her rectum. This process caused her to developed a fistula where fecesand urine passed through her vagina uncontrollably. She had two repairs that improved the quality of life but she will never be the same again.
